Below is a statement of Position Requirements for our Service Technician Job Classification. Realizing there are varying degrees of experience / familiarity and candidates are not exposed to all items, Lightspeed can guarantee technicians exposure to all items within the first year of service. We also aggressively support additional schooling for our employees thru tech schools and independent studies.



Job Title: Service Technician Position Requirements
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the installation, maintenance and support of the Microsoft operating system.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with installing, configuring and maintain application software on a Microsoft network.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the installation of telecommunication equipment (i.e. modems, routers, Data Terminal Equipment (DTE), Data Circuit-Terminating Equipment (DCE), Channel Service Unit (CSU).
  • Experience and/or familiarity in a network environment, to include networking hardware and network concepts (topography, mediums, network architecture, TCP/IP).
  • Experience and/or familiarity with TCP/IP protocol.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with switched and shared 10/100 base-T LAN design.
  • Have ability to learn and understand Network Resources and Utilities.
  • Have ability to learn and understand wireless concepts and architecture.
  • Capable of installing and terminating network cat5 cabling systems.
  • Installs/upgrades existing or new hardware, software and/or peripherals on Windows PC machines.
  • Installs/upgrades and configures Windows PC operating systems, hardware devices, and/or software applications with specific parameters.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot any peripherals Windows PC’s by quickly identifying the source of problems and provide an efficient solution in a timely manner.
  • Keep good records and logs on daily events and current inventory completing required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Maintain up to date documentation of passwords, network settings, and configurations.
  • Support the Network Administrator in the maintenance of all microcomputer equipment.
  • Assist end-users with technical problems relating to hardware conflicts, software conflicts, or a combination.
  • Ability to troubleshoot varied system configurations and logically resolve.
  • Exhibit self-motivation and ability to generate and meet appropriate program objectives and the persistence   necessary to ensure high levels of quality and effectiveness. Work under a minimum of supervision.
  • Adapt to new situations and challenges as circumstances demand.
  • Stay abreast of new and emerging developments in the field of networking and telecommunications.
  • Communicate effectively and interact professionally and courteously with clients, co-workers, and representatives from commercial concerns and other public entities.
  • Ensure satisfaction of customers and sensitivity to their concerns and needs.
  • This position has no formal supervisory or budget management responsibility.
  • Travel independently to fulfill the responsibility of the position (up to 50%).
  • MCSE/MCP/CCNA candidate would be helpful.
